Planning your 2014 Burner Friendly RV rental

If you have not planned your trip to the Burner Festival 2013, you are too late. That being said you are just in time to start planning your 2014 adventure.

Tickets should go on sale in January of 2014. For the 2013 event festival-goers were required to pre-register in order to buy tickets when they go on sale. You will want to keep an eye on www.Burningman.org for when they will allow you to pre-register and any changes the event planners may make to buying tickets for the 2014 Festival.

To tent or not to tent, that is the question. While sleeping in a tent will be your most affordable option, it will not be the most comfortable one. Winds in the Black Rock Desert can reach up to 75 miles per hour, day time temperatures can reach 100 degrees F and nighttime temperatures can drop into the ’40s. I would rather be camping in an RV. A Burner Friendly RV rental will provide air conditioning during the day, heat at night, and something to be between you and the wind. You will also have your kitchen and bathroom with you making the whole experience just a little more enjoyable.

If you are going with the comfort and extra cost of an RV you will really need to consider who you are taking with you. You will be sleeping in close quarters, so preferably no snorers. Then consider how you are going to divide up the cost of your RV if you are going to be renting one. You will be required to put some money down in order to secure your RV rental. The rest of your rental payment will be due 45-60 days before your pick up date. I have rented RVs to 100’s of people over the years and what I have always told my clients is get people’s money upfront. If you are taking on the responsibility to pay for the RV on your credit card have your friends start making payments to you long before the RV payment is due. That way when it is time to pay the balance of the RV rental you already have everyone’s money and you do not have to chase people for their payment.

The closest place to pick up a rental RV is in Reno Nevada and then San Francisco. I have never actually talked to anyone who actually got an RV from Reno as they book out so far in advance. If you are looking for a better deal for your RV rental, think outside the box. Las Vegas and Los Angeles are going to be a little further away but the price and the availability should be better. How about Salt Lake City? It isn’t as far as you would think and you will probably be avoiding the extra fees that some companies will be adding if you pick up from some of the regular spots.

The website has a list of what you will need to bring, it is worth checking out. Make sure you bring 1.5 gallons of water per person per day for drinking, washing, and cooking. The water that is in the holding tank of the RV should not be used for drinking or cooking but is safe for washing. Bring in all food and drink that you will need for your stay, warm clothing, and first aid kit. Extra sheets are good for have, you can make a sunblock with them and use them to keep the dust off of the furniture and off the dashboard of the RV. There is nothing for sale at the Burner Festival, except coffee and ice. Make sure you bring everything that you need. There is a daily shuttle that will take you to a tiny store, but the stuff available for sale there is limited.
