Salt Lake City – Local Attractions

Visit the beautiful state of Utah and take in one of the spectacular drives, Big or Little Cottonwood Canyon, Mirror Lake, Ogden River, or Provo Canyon each of which are sure to provide a day you and your family are sure to remember.

Take a tour of Temple Square. Located in the heart of Salt Lake City, Temple Square offers amazing gardens, delicious restaurants, and many interesting historical sites. Guided tours and presentations are located across the 35 acres of Temple Square.

Utah’s Hogle Zoo is committed to bringing attention to the endangered animals of our world. Their newest exhibit, Creatures of Habitat, features nine endangered species built out of Lego. The polar bear is the largest sculpture, taking over 1100 hours to build and using 95,000 Lego blocks to create. Be sure to visit Rocky Shores where you can visit polar bears, sea lions, seals, grizzly bears, otters, and bald eagles. The Asian Highlands is a re-creation of a Himalayan village showcasing 5 endangered Asian cat species or Elephant Encounter where you can see elephants and white rhinos.

Thanksgiving Point features the world’s largest dinosaur exhibit, with 60 complete skeleton displays. This attraction also has the largest manmade waterfall in the western hemisphere and a working farm that has a corn maze, horses, and pigs. What a great way to spend a day.

Gilgal Sculpture Garden is a treasure hidden behind businesses and houses in downtown Salt Lake City. This secret garden has recently become a public park but is even a surprise to some locals who stumble upon it. This garden has 12 original sculptures and over 70 stones engraved with poems and literary texts.

The Tracy Aviary is open 363 days a year and offers year-round exhibits, bird shows, and educational experiences. Meet macaws, pelicans, and condors just to name a few. Ask questions of the bird keepers and learn everything you ever wanted to know about birds.

Visit Wheeler Historic Farm. Take a tractor-drawn wagon ride around the farm, visit the horses, pigs, cows, and sheep, and feed the ducks and geese. Take a tour of the Victorian farmhouse which began construction in 1896. You can even try your hand at milking a cow. What a great thing to do while you are visiting Salt Lake City.

Phoenix – Local Attractions

No trip to Arizona is complete without a stop at the Grand Canyon. Peer down into the mile-deep river bed as you take in the jagged rocks and the amazing colors of the earth. Whether you want to take a trip down the river, do some backcountry hiking or see the canyon from high overhead there is a tour available for you.

The Phoenix Zoo has been rated as one of the top five zoos in the United States for kids. Get up close and personal with a giraffe. At the Phoenix Zoo, you can actually climb up and feed the giraffes, how cool. How about a ride on a camel? Or pet and feed a stingray? Monkey village allows you to get in the cage with the monkeys. Walkthrough the exhibit of squirrel monkeys as they scamper just inches away from you. You can also hop on the Safari Train and let your tour guide tell you interesting things about the exhibits you pass or take a ride on the Endangered Species Carousel. No wonder this zoo is in the top five.

Plan a visit to the Desert Botanical Gardens, wind your way through the peaceful scenic trails or take a guided tour to learn more about the beauty that surrounds you. The Gardens are open from 7 am to 8 pm so depending on the time of year you could even take in a sunrise or a sunset, what a beautiful way to start or end the day.

Castles n’ Coasters offers fun and excitement to kids of all ages. If you like the high adrenaline of riding the rails of a roller coaster try Desert Storm. In for something a little more physically challenging try On The Ropes, the 3 story obstacle course lets you test your skills and courage and lets you compete with your friends and family. I think the bumper boats and the mini-golf might be more my speed.

The Phoenix International Raceway currently hosts two NASCAR race weekends annually. Stay right in the action in an RV so you don’t miss a thing. Even if you are not a NASCAR fan there is nothing like seeing this event live, the energy here is contagious.

Fort Lauderdale Beaches

Ft Lauderdale has some of the best beaches in the world. If you are looking for a beach where you can sit back and let the sand run through your toes, or if the adventure of catching a wave is what gets your heart pounding the beaches of Ft Lauderdale are not going to disappoint you.

For a family-friendly beach, Deerfield Beach is a favorite. There are nine lifeguards on duty 365 days a year from 9 am – 5 pm. Alcohol is not allowed on the beach and either is any glass containers, making this beach safe for little ones in bare feet. Surfing and bodyboards are permitting put only in certain areas of the beach, and the same goes for any ball or Frisbee games.

Dania Beach may be one of the least crowded beaches but it has some of the most magnificent scenery in the area. If visiting this beach you will need to eat at the Dania Beach Bar and Grill. Eat right on the pier with water as far as the eye can see. The high rises behind you remind you how close you really are to the city from your little piece of paradise.

Visit Hollywood Beach, this beach boast 7 miles of beautiful sandy beaches, 2.5 miles of paved trail, an array of restaurants from casual burger, and pizza joints to international cuisine. The boardwalk is a great place to eat as it allows for some of the best people-watching around. The locals rave about Josh’s Organic Garden which opens onto the boardwalk every Sunday which is a great place to stock up on picnic-ready items. The coral reefs in the area allow you to get close up with nature as you snorkel through the reefs looking for local residents. The Hollywood Beach Theatre has live music 5 nights a week, but watch out for the turtles, if you are lucky you may be able to watch the sea turtles hatch right on the beach.

Fort Lauderdale Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches around, the turquoise water and the palm trees that sway in the wind who could ask for more. But there is more, cute boutiques, quaint restaurants, and a water sport for everyone.
