As the weather turns cooler, pot lucks begin and then finally a wonderful gathering of family at Thanksgiving. This time of year always makes me think of my roots, where it all began. Family road trips can be its own adventure, but why not take one to the roots of Thanksgiving.
TOP STOPS:
Plymouth, Massachusetts
There’s no better place to start this journey then where the first historic gathering happened, Plymouth, Massachusetts, a 45-minute drive from Boston. At Plimouth Plantation, you can experience history brought to life with outdoor living exhibits, the Mayflower II, Pilmoth Grist Mill, and traditional New England trimmings where you can talk about the 1621 feast that started it all.

Santa Fe, New Mexico
To learn more about Native American culture, head to Santa Fe for its world-renowned art galleries and museums. A three-day Winter Indian Market hosts 200 artists, native dance groups, and music for all the entertainment and history you can handle.

New York City, New York
If you’re a fan of gatherings and thanksgiving, the biggest gathering to celebrate the holiday is in the Big Apple at the Thanksgiving Day Parade with over three million spectators. If crowds aren’t your thing, cozy up with the family in an overlooking hotel room for the ultimate high up viewpoint.

If you are getting ready to start your RV adventure you may want to check out some of these helpful apps to make your trip a little more carefree.
There are lots of apps helping you to decide where to stay. I don’t like dishing out money to buy apps, there are lots of free apps available, but some of these are worth the price. Here are some of the most popular.
ALLSTAYS-Camp & RV, this app lets you find and filter places with or without available internet. This is a great app that includes filtering by tenting, RV resorts, parking lots (that you are allowed to stay in), fuel stops, rest areas, and more. It’s worth the price. Allstays also has a Walmart Overnight Parking app that comes in handy when you are just looking for a place to get a few hour’s sleep.
Some of the best apps for navigating come built into our phones. The built in IOS map app is a great app, Suri gives good directs so that you do not need to be looking at your phone while you are driving. Even for an iPhone user like me, the Google app has its place. When you are on a website and hit the get directions link it usually uses Google maps. I don’t think that it is as smooth as the IOS version but not everyone is lucky enough to have an iPhone.
There is an RV travel blog http://www.technomadia.com/ that I have been reading and they have created some of there own apps based on RV travel need. This one lets you track cellular signal offline so that you can check and make sure that the campground you are planning on staying at has a cellular connection.
Let’s face it, we want to rent an RV so that we can reconnect with our family. The last thing we want the kids to be doing is staring at their cell phones. Why not use the phones do get everyone in the same place interacting with each other. The Campfire Songs app will remind you of all those great songs that you used to sing as a kid.
How about taking the kids on a treasure hunt with this Geocaching app. This is a great way to get everybody together, to get moving and see somewhere that you wouldn’t have seen otherwise.
This has to be my favorite apps for getting people moving and interacting with the world. Don’t discount Pokemon Go as an app only for kids. I would say it is for ages 10-99. This apps gets people out walking and interacting with other people playing the game. When you are at a Pokestop you end up talking to other people that are there and comparing Pokemon, finding out where they are from and a little of their story. The drawback to this is that you need to be in populated areas to find the Pokemon. If your RV rental trip includes some city stops you should give this app a try, you may be surprised.
There are sani-dump apps and gas price check apps, things-to-do apps, weather apps, hiking trail apps, the list is endless of what is available to us online. Check out the stargazer apps that will name constellations as you view them through your phone. What a great way to spend an evening by the campfire.
We just love road trips and what better way to experience it then to use a one way RV rental. As falls comes into full swing and the colors are blooming, who wouldn’t want to travel from New York to Miami? With all of the adventures that New York and Miami have to offer, but also the secret spots of fun along the way.

So if you’re looking to rent an RV for a one-way road trip from New York to Miami, here are our must-see stops along the way:
First Stop: Washington DC
Park the RV for the day and make use of city sightseeing by hopping on a trolley bus tour of the old town or amphibious vehicle tours on the Potomac River. If you’re in the city and museums are your thing, a stop at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and for some time outdoors US Botanical Gardens is a gorgeous stop.

Beach Time: VA Beach
Check out where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. There’s a 3-mile boardwalk that stretches along the oceanfront. There’s plenty of restaurants, nightlife and even amusement parks for the kids. Outside of city life, there’s hiking trails and endless water sports.
From there, you can take the drive to Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive all the way to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The Mountains Are Calling: Great Smoky Mountains National Park
After lounging on the beach, it’s time to hit the mountains and explore the world-renowned diversity of plant and animal life in the ancient mountains of the Great Smokies. The Appalachian Trail also passes through the center of the park.
Back to the Beach: Myrtle Beach
After some solid hiking in the mountains, it’s always great to relax. And where better then on Myrtle Beach with it’s 60-mile Grand Strand string of beaches.
Stepping into the City: Savannah River Street
After all of that relaxation, it’s time to head back to the city. But let’s take it slow. River Street in Savannah is the perfect place to start. With its century-old buildings, spectacular galleries, and amazing brewpubs, restaurants, and nightclubs, it’s the perfect stop before heading into Florida.
Fun for All Ages: Orlando, Florida
Walt Disney World is a stop that’s fun for all ages. Between the rides, entertainment, dining, events, and tours, Disney is the place to be. There are multiple theme and water parks that appeal to the child in you where a magic world never has to end.
The Last Stop Between Orlando and Miami: Kennedy Space Center
The last leg between Orlando and Miami is a short 3-hour jet, stopping at the Kennedy Space Center is a must. Why Kennedy? Check out the rocket garden, the Apollo/Saturn V Center, the Space Shuttle Atlantis Exhibit and take a ride on the Shuttle Launch Experience to learn what it really feels like to launch into space.
It’s a great one way trip from New York to Miami with all kinds of hidden adventures for every soul.
