Las Vegas – Local Attractions

Las Vegas was once a city known only for its casinos and mobsters and now it becomes a family holiday destination. Las Vegas is still a world destination for gambling or gaming as it is now known, with 15 of the world’s largest hotels and casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. Take in a show at one of the many theatres; Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Donnie and Marie, Elvis impersonators, a Beatles tribute band, Michael Jackson’s ONE, there is a show for everyone.

The Freemont Street Experience is a four-block long and 90-foot high screen canopying the street below. Every hour there is a neon light show. Walk through the pedestrian mall, play the $5 Blackjack tables, and view the free live entertainment.

Adventuredome theme park is 5 acres of indoor amusement park located at the Circus Circus Hotel. Check out the Canyon Blaster roller coaster, the rock climbing wall, the 18 hole miniature golf course, and the Virtual Reality Zone.

Visit Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay which transports you under the sea to a world of dangerous and unusual aquatic animals. The popular touch pools let you actually touch sharks, rays, and horseshoe crabs. Watch the actions of over 30 sharks from the belly of a sunken pirate ship.

Take a break from the excitement and lights of the city and spend the day in the calmness of the Las Vegas Springs Preserve. Walk the 110 acres of gardens and view the largest collection of Mohave Desert cacti and succulent plants. Or listen to the history of Las Vegas on the two-mile ride aboard the trackless train.

San Francisco – Local Attractions

Visit the Golden Gate Bridge with its 748-foot towers and sweeping cables. The bridge was finished in 1937 and is now one of the most photographed bridges in the world. Over 10 million people a year visit the bridge. Hike the trails of the Golden Gate National Park which are located at both ends of the bridge. Or visit the Bridge Café for a healthy snack featuring local cuisine. A must is a visit to the Round House which has a photo booth that, with the help of a green screen, will put you atop the south tower or climbing the main cables hundreds of feet above the ground. You can also take a personally guided tour and learn the history of the Golden Gate Bridge. The best time to visit the Golden Gate Bridge in May and June or September and October as you should be sure to avoid the fog that is common during the summer and winter months.

Alcatraz Island, also known as “The Rock” can be seen 1 ½ miles offshore of San Francisco. This island was once a lighthouse, a military fort, a military prison, and a federal prison housing some of the world’s most notorious convicts such as Al “Scarface” Capone and the “Birdman” Robert Stroud. Now Alcatraz Island is home to many rare flowers and plants, marine life, and thousands of sea birds. Make sure you allow at least 2 ½ hours from the mainland back to the mainland to make sure you have enough time to take the Cellhouse Audio Tour and explore the island and see the historical exhibits.

When I picture San Francisco I picture people running up to catch Cable Cars and jumping on. San Francisco’s cable car system is the last manually run cable car system in the world. Running since 1873 you can now take a ride on one of these cars from Union Square to Fisherman’s Wharf. Visit the Cable Car Museum at 1201 Main Street, San Francisco California 94108 for a free ride through history as you learn about the inventor, the technology, and the bell ringing contests.

The San Francisco Zoo is home to over 250 species of animals. The Children’s Zoo features a Meekcat and Prairie Dog Exhibit, and Insect Zoo, a Family Farm and so much more to delight the child in all of us. Go on an Australian Walkabout and see the red and grey kangaroos and the wallaroos, you may even be able to see a little joey in its mother’s pouch. Gorillas, Lions, Grizzly Bears, Penguins, there are so many animals to see make sure you leave enough time and wear your good walking shoes.

Fisherman’s Wharf is home to some of the best cuisine in the world. Sit and enjoy a meal in one of the fine dining restaurants or stop at one of the crab shack for fresh Dungeness crab or enjoy a bowl of seafood chowder in a sourdough bowl. Now that you are full sit back and watch the street performers, clowns, jugglers, mimes, musicians, and fire eaters, but watch out for the Bushman as he scares unsuspecting people. Stop and visit the sea lions off of Pier 39, depending on the time of year there can be hundreds of these basking in the sun.

One Way RV Rentals

One way RV rentals can be a great way to see a lot of the country. Having the option to pick up in San Francisco and drop off in New York or Florida lets you drive across the country and then fly home. Maybe you want to see the Rocky Mountains, you could pick up in Denver and drop off in Seattle. Historic Route 66 is another must travel route. Starting in Chicago this highway takes you on one of the original highways from 1926. By the 1950s and ’60s, this highway was getting fewer and fewer travelers so new development stopped. Now traveling this highway is like taking a step back in time as you make your way to Los Angeles. Seattle, Atlanta, Boston, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Dallas, Miami, Orlando Las Vegas, the combination of trips are endless.

If you are going to plan a one way RV rental trip my advice to you is to plan the trip well in advance, 8 months to a year is not too far in advance to plan if you are planning on traveling June through September. Planning this far in advance will give you the most options as far as cities and size of RV. Start looking now for your trip next summer by filling out the city, date, and vehicle fields above. Someone will get back to you with the availability of the trip you have selected.

If you are looking to book for a last-minute special and your plans are flexible, fill in the fields above and write in the comment section that you are looking for a one way special and that your plans are flexible and someone will email you with the specials that are available.

Why not spend some time going one way from Orlando to Ft Lauderdale in January, what a great way to see Florida and beat the winter blues.
